The Confirmation I program is in the first year of our program, and is comprised of a Kickoff Celebration, completion of a service requirement, and 12 sessions of instruction.
The program begins with the Kickoff Celebration for students AND their parents. Please refer to the schedule provided for dates and times. We will have some games for everyone to get to know each other, as well as presentations to discuss what Confirmation is all about. The afternoon includes dinner (pizza will be brought in) and sharing in the Eucharistic Feast at the 6:00 p.m. Mass.
We discuss what it means to be a Disciple of Jesus and how service relates to that. The service requirement for is 5 hours of community service, and 10 hours of Christian service.
The heart of the program is comprised of 12 sessions of instruction, divided into two “semesters”. The first semester which runs from October through December is what we refer to as our “Small group” classes, where students meet with their teacher in a classroom in the Youth Ministry building. The Decision Point curriculum, produced by Dynamic Catholic, is used to help facilitate discussions. (All videos can be viewed at www.DynamicCatholic.com/confirmation)
In the second semester, which begins in January, our Confirmation I students meet as one large group in the Parish Hall. We will be focusing on strengthening our relationships with God through prayer. Developing any relationship takes time and focus. During the large-group sessions, students will be presented with, and actively engaged in, many different prayer styles that will help to enrich each student’s personal prayer life. The presentations are given by parish staff and lay leaders.
